Holy Week and Easter
Wow! What an amazing Palm Sunday we had together, sharing communion, prayer and the beautiful Easter Musical, Forever: Songs of Grace and Mercy, presented by our choir. I’ve enjoyed reading and hearing your comments during this week and knowing that you were wonderfully blessed all through the day and evening. My deep gratitude goes to Ty LoVette, the choir, and every single person who had a part in making this such a moving and inspiring day for us. Thank you very much.
From here we embark on Holy Week. I encourage you, all through the week, to make space in your schedule to mindfully prepare for the blessings of Easter. Throughout the season of Lent we’ve been asking questions like, “Is there room in your heart for Jesus?” “Is there room in your bowl for Jesus?” “Is there room in your life for Jesus?” I hope you will fully answer that question during this Holy Week in order to be ready for all the blessings God has in store for us. Our schedule for the weekend is full and not too full. On Friday evening at 7:00 we will offer our Good Friday Service. This promises to be a moving service including a special skit, reflections on the Stations of the Cross and a bit of music. I am aware that Stations of the Cross sounds new to some of you. I encourage you to come “try it on” with us.
Sunday morning at 6:00 AM, we will offer our Easter Sunrise Service with Rev. Lee Carlton. At 7:00 AM we will serve a waffle and pancake breakfast. Then at 10:00AM we will offer our Easter Morning Worship Celebration, baptism, reception of new members, amazing music and my sermon called, “I’ve Just Seen Jesus.” Following the service, our regular Fellowship Meal will be available.
I can’t think of a better way to celebrate Easter than to be here worshipping with the Holy Cross MCC Community/Family. I use both terms intentionally to highlight that we love each other like family and we welcome every single person who visits our campus. That’s how we become a community that loves the way Jesus loves.
A word about our new Cleargive Kiosk. Over the weeks ahead it will become increasingly important for all of us to have a Cleargive account. The best way to register is by visiting the church’s website at www.holycrossmcc.com, then click on “Donate.” Click “New User” and the system will guide you from there. Cleargive offers so many opportunities for us to give to the ministry of Holy Cross MCC, to register for events, and to participate more fully in everything that happens around our church. Your Board of Directors went to great lengths to make sure this system is safe, effective and confidential and it fully meets all of those criterion. Check it out today, please.
Finally, I want to encourage all of us to pray for one another. Every one of us, including your pastor, has needs, struggles, disappointments, healthcare concerns, relationships and other concerns or combinations of concerns. Let’s always be a community that lifts up every member, that honors and respects every participant, that forgives when we get hurt and really lives out the gospel calling to love in every way possible. Here’s a song you might enjoy to illustrate I Need you to Survive.
I look forward to seeing you in church and around the community. Holy week blessings to you and yours.
