Super Summer Events at Holy Cross MCC
Dear Holy Cross Members and Friends,
Al and I are happy to be back with you after a very enjoyable trip. I was so proud to see Jes Morgan graduate from Episcopal Divinity School. She has made a very positive impression on the faculty and represented Holy Cross MCC very well. My deep gratitude goes to Rev. Lee, the Board members, Deb Brande and all who helped keep things moving here while I was away. Ministry is always better when we do it together.
Calling all Holy Cross family and friends under 40. I want to have a visit with you all. You are very important to Holy Cross MCC both now and in the future. I’m very interested in your thoughts about our church, what makes it appealing to you and how we might make it more welcoming to your friends. Look for an invitation this week to an event that we’re designing just for you. I think you’ll enjoy it. I’ll be in touch with you very soon.
Money Matters It is part of my responsibility to let you know where we stand financially. We have, without a doubt, hit the summer slump in our giving and our accounts are beginning to run dangerously low. I know all of us want to have a fully funded, fully functional ministry, so in order to do so it’s time for us to address our offering on Sunday. Perhaps you’ve been on vacation, out of town, at the beach, or away for some other reason. Let’s all make this Sunday our catching up day. Let’s, as the Bible says, “Bring the tithe into the storehouse.” And remember electronic giving is always available through our ClearGive system, which is now fully functional. Let’s all participate in a catch-up Sunday. As always, thanks for your faithfulness to God and to Holy Cross MCC.
Membership Class will be offered next Sunday, June 14, shortly after church, in the sanctuary. Perhaps you’ve been attending Holy Cross MCC for a while and are ready to take the next step by becoming an official member. We would love to have you do that. Membership Class, which is required of all new and returning members, offers an opportunity to learn about the history of Metropolitan Community Churches. All the ministries of Holy Cross MCC are reviewed and new members are invited to join in one or more of those. We watch some wonderful videos of MCC Founder Rev. Troy Perry. We review our church’s by-laws and core values and discuss our approach to theology. You’re invited to join us on Sunday, June 14 for Membership Class. If you wish to join, please email us at email@example.com. We look forward to seeing you there.
Marriage This coming Tuesday evening I will offer my Marriage Preparation Course. The course is being offered in conjunction with PensacolaPride. The class will meet 5:00 – 9:00 Tuesday evening. For those planning to be married at Pride, this course is a requirement. If couples are considering weddings in the coming months, this is also an option. The course covers a variety of topics, including basic relationship issues, finances, legal concerns, issues with children and families, crisis management, relationship agreements, communication skills, issues around intimacy and a wide range of other topics. The course meets the requirements of Escambia County to waive the three day waiting period for a license and entitles couples to a $30 discount off the marriage license fee. Certificates are valid for one year. The cost for the course is $30 per couple, paid in advance, cash preferred. If you would like to join us this coming Tuesday, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. The course is limited to 20 couples. Thank you.
