So Many Things to Do
I look forward to writing this article for you every week. It offers us one of the best ways to communicate about events happening around our church and about ministry opportunities for all of us who consider Holy Cross MCC our church home. As I often remind you, “We’re in this together.” Thanks for your ongoing participation in our church with your time, your talent, your treasure and your truth.
The next week is packed with possibilities for our church community. On Tuesday evening, August 11, I’ll be meeting with members of the Trans community at Ozone Pizza in Pensacola. This event is co-sponsored by Strive (our local Trans group) and Holy Cross MCC. Our discussion topic will be “Creating Safe Space for Trans People in the Church Environment.” All members of the Trans community are invited, with a limit of 25 (due to room space). You may register for the event at https://www.facebook.com/events/904797376233236/.
The following evening, we will host our second Pizza and Brew event for Holy Cross members and friends 40(ish) and under. This event will also be held at Ozone Pizza. We will continue our discussion of welcoming younger people in our church community, involving them at all levels of the church, and making them sticky – making sure they stay with us once they get involved. Again, if you are 40ish or below (at least 18), this event is for you. You may register for this event at this internet link https://www.facebook.com/events/486716164843416/.
We are in the process of establishing these affinity groups within our congregation to help us live into our identity as a diverse and welcoming congregation. When we say that, we mean at all level of church life – attendance, leadership, ordination, marriage, baptism. When we say, “Everybody welcome,” we really mean it.
Finally, on Friday evening at 6:30, we will offer our Music Ministry Variety Show Fundraiser here at church. You tell me all the time how important music is to this community, so now’s the time to come and show your love and appreciation for our Music Ministry. We’ll have a fabulous variety show, a raffle, a silent auction, food, drinks and all sorts of fun. Remember to bring your $1.00 bills as they will be the method of voting for your favorite act. We look forward to a fabulous evening of fundraising and fellowship. You may register for this event and get your tickets here https://egivingskiosk.com/egive3/index.cfm?page=eventDetail&id=142001009&locID=142001. $5.00 donation per ticket is requested. If you need assistance with that, please see me.
Finally, a word about our finances. July was a challenging month for us with so many of our members away on vacation and other trips. Suffice it to say that our expenses far exceeded our income for the month. We are not in crisis mode – our giving over the year has been very good. However, August would be a great time for us to begin building back our reserves so we are prepared for whatever expenses come our way in the future. If you‘ve been away, would you consider catching up with your tithes and offerings this month? Your board and I would be deeply grateful. Thank you.
Have a wonderful weekend. Be safe out there and remember to be here every Sunday you can. Great things are happening every week for those who seek to pattern their lives after Jesus, our role model.
Blessings to you and yours…
