To Everything There is a Season…
I wrote to you earlier this week about our current financial situation at Holy Cross MCC. Today I am pleased to share with you our plan for a very fast fundraiser that promises to bring in over $11,000 for the church’s general fund.
On Sunday you will see a tree (or two) when you arrive at church. On that tree will be envelopes numbered from 1 to 150. Each person is asked to take an envelope and return it with the dollar amount represented by the number of the envelope (or more). So, if I take the envelope marked 100, I return it with $100 inside. We will only run this fundraiser for 2 weeks. The first collection will take place on Sunday, October 11 and the second on October 18. In order for us to succeed, every one of us will need to participate at a level that matches our ability. If, however, you feel called to contribute more than $150, we would be grateful for that, too. NOTE: Please do not give your regular tithes and offerings to this campaign. That will not help us at all. So begin praying now and thinking carefully about how you will participate in an over-an-above, special, emergency fundraiser for the general fund of Holy Cross MCC.
You may notice that some of the envelopes are missing. That’s because I’m asking our Board and other church leaders to commit to their participation even before this Sunday. I will do the same thing. I know God is going to bless us financially because many of us have already begun praying and seeking God’s direction about what to do in the face of this challenge.
In addition to the fundraiser, I am calling for a focused Season of Prayer for the church’s finances during the month of October. If you would like to pray at church, you are welcome to come any time the church office is open. Praying at home or in any other location is just as effective. Pray for God to show us the way ahead financially. Pray for God to show you how to participate. Pray about a sacrificial gift, one that causes us to stretch a bit. Consider the cost of a trip out of town, a night out on the town, a week’s worth of Starbucks, a week’s worth of cigarettes, a week’s worth of fuel. Those are places where we can look and consider the importance of our church in comparison. I cannot tell anyone how to participate, but I know God can and will if we are faithful to seek God’s counsel during this challenging time.
If there are questions about this fundraiser, please send them to me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I’ll be happy to respond to them. Thank you so much for your participation.
