Thanksgiving and Opportunities

 In Pastor's Message

Thanks so much for your faithfulness to the ministry of Holy Cross MCC of Pensacola.  Your contributions of Time, Talent, Treasure and Truth enable us to focus on the calling God has placed on all of our lives; to become an outpost of God’s beloved community here and around the world.  I very deeply appreciate all you do.

My sermon for Sunday is called “Thankful Hearts,” and I would enjoy having some help from you.  There will be a section where I talk about things for which I am thankful.  I would like to include some of yours, too.  So, if you would like to share with me what you’re thankful for this year, please write to me today at I look forward to hearing from you.

Speaking of Thanksgiving, you’re invited to join the Holy Cross Community for a Thanksgiving Day Lunch, beginning at noon and running until about 2:00PM.  The church will provide turkey, ham, desserts and drinks.  Participants are asked to bring a dish of your favorite holiday sides, with enough to share.  It would help us to so much if you would RSVP in one of two ways.   You make use this link to mark, “GOING”, or you may write to us at Let’s make this a fabulous time of food and fellowship with the Holy Cross MCC family.

Especially for those of you who are new, each year every Metropolitan Community Church holds and annual meeting which we call “Congregational Meeting.”  Your Board is actively working toward being ready for our meeting at the first of the year.  In light of that, we are seeking candidates for several positions around the church. Consider these, please;

  1. Board of Directors – We will elect 3 members of the Board at our 2016 meeting. Qualified applicants must submit to a background screening before running for election.  If interested, please see a member of our Board Candidate Recruitment Team – Pat Lieb, Denise Moffit and Board Liaison, Michelle LoFaso.  You may also write to us at
  2. Children’s Ministry Volunteer – We are expanding our Children’s Ministry Team this year. We need several new participants to provide thorough coverage and to meet our new safety requirements.  This position also required a background screening.  For more information and/or to volunteer, please write to
  3. Lay Delegate – Lay Delegates represent Holy Cross MCC at denominational events and meetings and report monthly to the Board of Directors. For more information, please write to

So perhaps now would be a good time to begin praying about the role God would have you take in the leadership of our church in 2016.  We will provide you with training and all the resources needed to successfully complete the role to which you may be elected.  If you’d like to discuss these with me, please contact Deb Brande in the church office to set a time to chat with me.  I welcome the discussion.

Finally for today, we have started our annual Pledge Drive.  We are taking a very soft sell approach this year with no charts, graphics, testimonials, etc.  Simply put, pledge cards will be in the bulletins each Sunday through November 29.  I’ll give a reminder at the offering about what we are doing.  Then we are trusting that members of our community will make a pledge to indicate how we should budget for the coming year.  I ask you to pray earnestly about this. God made it very clear to me that I needed to increase my pledge by 10% next year, so that’s what I’m doing. God will make your calling clear, too, if we spend the time needed to seek and hear from God.  Thank you again for all that you are already doing and for all that you will do in the coming year.

Have a safe and Happy Weekend.  I look forward to seeing you in church.
