Holy Week at Holy Cross MCC of Pensacola
Thank you for the wonderful weekend we shared together last week. I’m so tempted to start another thank you list, but I know I would unintentionally leave someone out. So, let me just say Thank You, to every person who had a part in the day on Sunday. A huge amount of preparation went into making it a festive day. Thanks to every one for your contributions, for your participation and for your welcome of our special guests.
This Sunday is Palm Sunday. We will have palms galore. We’ll be handing out plan fronds for everyone to wave during the processional. This is intended as a reenactment of the parade during which Jesus entered Jerusalem to shouts of, “Hosanna! Hosanna in the highest.” Much gratitude to Rev. Lee for providing our palms again this year. After that, Holy Week is upon us. Here’s our church schedule for the week. Please print this, put it in your calendar and plan to participate as much as possible.

On Easter Sunday, we’re encouraging people to wear pastel colored tops. One of our choir members told me this week, “I’m going to look like an Easter basket!” A vivid image immediately came to me. Let’s all participate and help make our sanctuary even more beautiful. Thank you.
Did you know there were two parades going on in Jerusalem the day Jesus entered the city? I’ll include a discussion of both parades during my sermon on Sunday. Our gospel reading for that day is, from the gospel of John 12: 12 – 15. The Message translates it this way,
“The…huge crowd that had arrived for the Feast heard that Jesus was entering Jerusalem. They broke off palm branches and went out to meet him. And they cheered: ‘Hosanna! Blessed is [the one] who comes in God’s name!…’ Jesus got a young donkey and rode it, just as the Scripture has it: ‘No fear, Daughter Zion: See how your [leader] comes, riding a donkey’s colt.’”
I invite you spend some time reflecting on this and on your Palm Sunday experiences throughout your life. For some, this will be a fist experience and for others it is one through which we’ve found meaning for many years.
Finally, remember our St. Patrick’s Day Social this Friday evening at 7:00PM. We’ll serve a traditional dinner (with a vegetarian option), and have all kinds of fun together. Please RSVP right away on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/events/1133953406629259/ or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Have a wonderful weekend.
