We did it again! We had another powerful, Spirit-filled Sunday of worship and celebration together. We are experiencing the faithfulness of God every time we come together as a faith community focused on God’s plan for our lives and for our church. I can’t help but express my gratitude to all the teams who serve our congregation every Sunday, the ushers, multimedia team, musicians, greeters, prayer ministers, readers and every one of you who joins with us as we gather together. You are amazing.
This Sunday we celebrate “Homecoming Sunday.” We haven’t planned this as a day to invite former members back (as in traditional homecoming Sunday’s). Rather, we’ve planned a service of music in the style of what you see at a Gaither homecoming concert. You’re going to love this, I know. After the service we’ll have a cookout and bake sale to celebrate community and Memorial Day together. We’ll also honor our veterans during the morning worship celebration. Come and bring some friends for this grand day of celebration. Bring lawn chairs to church if you have them available.
After the morning worship celebration on Sunday, June 5, we will offer our next Congregational Forum. Remember, a Congregational Forum is a place to receive information and not a formal voting meeting. During the June 5 forum, you will hear from our lay delegates who are attending General Conference on behalf of our church. They will share with you about business coming before the General Conference, including the election of MCC’s next Moderator, Governing Board and some proposed (very simple) by-law changes for the denomination. We’ll also share with you about MCC’s proposed new Statement of Faith – I think you’re going to like it. After all of that, the Board and I will update you about Project Higher Ground, and share some detailed financial information about where we stand at the moment. Plan to stay and be informed about the business of Holy Cross MCC of Pensacola. We look forward to seeing you.
We’re having a great time during our Wednesday evening prayer services at 6:30PM. We try on a variety of forms of prayer as we lift up the needs of those gathered and those of the community. Come try it on with us some Wednesday evening. We’d love to have you join our circle.
There are many other activities planned around our church this summer. I hope you’ll have a careful look at the ads and calendar in this edition of The GEM. It’s the best way to know what’s going on at Holy Cross MCC of Pensacola. I look forward to seeing you at church and in the community.
