Fifth Sunday Potluck – You’re invited!
I’m enjoying my weekly practice of saying “Thank you” to people who do so much around our church to make our ministries alive and active. This week I want to thank the members of our new Church Security Team for the outstanding training they provided last Sunday after church. Terri Bradfield, Tony Tatum, Al Leach, Lori Shuman, Joey Bourgeois and Melissa Brown have come together to assist me in making our church environment as safe as possible. I very much appreciate each one of these for their commitment in this area. While I deeply regret that plans and teams like this are now necessary in churches, I am also deeply grateful for this team of committed volunteers who will help keep us all as safe as we can be. By the way, if you missed this training, I strongly encourage you to get with a member of our team so they can help you get informed. For today, however, THANK YOU Church Security Team – you are very much appreciated.
Help Wanted – We are in most need of volunteers to help keep our church clean. Currently we have a very small number of volunteers for this and we need to add to the team. I estimate that it takes 2 – 3 people about 2 hours to clean the church. This includes vacuuming the platform area, sweeping and/or mopping (as needed) dusting, cleaning the bathrooms and taking out the trash. Some suggestions – perhaps some of our already formed teams could volunteer for a month at a time; and affinity group, a ministry team or some of our teams involved in Sunday worship. Perhaps a couple would take a turn one time per month. Perhaps a group of friends would take a turn. And by the way, teams don’t have to be here all at once. Some can come at one time and some at another. We’ll divide up the tasks to make this as easy as possible. So, please consider taking a turn. I know we want our church to be as clean and welcoming as it can be both for our guests and for the regular members of our congregation. To volunteer, please call the church office (850-469-9090) or use the sign-up sheet at church. Thank you in advance for your participation.
My sermon for this coming Sunday is called, “Plenty of Room.” I hope you will spend some time reflecting on these readings as Sunday approaches;
Colossians 3.2, 10-11
Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth…Clothe yourselves with the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of its creator. In that renewal there is no longer Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free; but Christ is all and in all!
Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me.” But he said to him, “Friend, who set me to be a judge or arbitrator over you?” And he said to them, “Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.”
Remember, it’s potluck Sunday, so bring a dish of your favorite Sunday Dinner food, with enough to share. Volunteers are also needed for set-up and especially for clean-up.
Have a wonderful weekend. I look forward to seeing you again soon.
