Staff Changes, Special Events and Schedule Updates
Thanks for another excellent week of participation in the ministry of Holy Cross MCC of Pensacola. Your participation via your time, your talent, your treasure and your truth keeps our church both fully active and fully funded. Thanks so much for all you do.
Have you noticed us using cell phones during church? I want to let you know what we are doing. First, we are trying to grow our audience on social media. Our advisors have told us that one good way to do that is to broadcast live segments of our Worship Celebrations on Facebook. You might have seen me with my phone during Praise and Worship, scanning the instrumentalists and singers. That was our first attempt at a live segment on Facebook. It will take some practice and some time to build our audience, and we’re committed to doing that. Another way we are using our phones is for communication between those in the front of church and our multimedia team at the back. This enables us to adjust sound and lighting in real time. Finally, we have an active church security team, two of whom are heavily involved in worship leadership. Using our phones also helps us communicate what we see happening from the front of the room with those security team members and our ushers seated in the rear of church. We’re doing everything we can to maintain the safest possible environment in the least invasive manner possible.
And, there’s a role for you to play with your phone. When you arrive at church, “check-in” on social media. If you were blessed by the service, write a sentence or two about it on Facebook or Twitter as you are leaving. All of this helps us spread the message and encourage others to come and try on the “new” Holy Cross MCC. Thanks for your service as HCMCC Ambassadors.
I’m very happy to announce that Waylon Bailey has accepted the position of Praise Team Director, as a volunteer. I very deeply appreciate Waylon’s musicianship, spirituality and his willingness to step in to this role so quickly after Michelle’s departure from the position. Waylon’s willingness to serve in this role as a volunteer is a remarkable contribution to our church. I look forward to what God will continue to do through our music ministry under Waylon’s leadership.
I’m also pleased to welcome Carollyn Taylor to the Worship Planning Team as Special Events Coordinator. Will the addition of Carollyn, the team now consists of Waylon Bailey (music), Albert Leach (media), Tony Tatum (arts), and Carollyn Taylor (special events), all working with me as Pastor. Thanks to all of you for your service.
There are many exciting fellowship opportunities coming our way over the next few weeks. They include a Labyrinth Walk on Wednesday, April 5 at 6:30PM. Please RSVP here for that evening Labyrinth Walk . Walking the labyrinth is an excellent opportunity for prayer, reflection and meditation as we prepare ourselves for the blessings of Easter. There will also be light refreshments to share during a debriefing session immediately following the walk. Come join us and invite some friends.
On Saturday, April 8 at 6:30PM, we have a very exciting event – the first churchwide Pancake Supper. You may RSVP for that event here Pancake Supper. This should be a fun evening as we come together to share a meal and enjoy each other’s company. RSVP’s are important so we know how much food to prepare, so please do that as soon as you are able.
On Holy Thursday, we will have a combined evening including a Holy Thursday Service and a Spaghetti Dinner – an event sponsored by our church Ministry Teams. The service will be on Thursday, April 13 at 6:30PM, with dinner following. You may RSVP for that evening here Spaghetti Supper. Again, we would love to see you and your friends, so plan now to be with us and RSVP as soon as possible.
Our Easter Celebration includes a grand Palm Sunday Parade, an Early Easter Service at 7AM in the Prayer Garden, a light breakfast at 8AM, and our Easter Worship Celebration at 10AM. I hope you will help us fill every chair as we celebrate Easter as a welcoming community of faith. And remember to begin preparing now for our Easter Bonnet Contest!
Again, thank you for your commitment to Holy Cross MCC. I look forward to seeing you in church this weekend.
