The Gift of Choices
Once again, Happy Easter! Thank you so much for your wonderful participation in our Lent/Holy Week/Easter celebration here at church. And let me say a heartfelt word of gratitude to our ministry teams and ministry team leaders for all the additional service they offered us to make our celebration so deeply meaningful. It takes the combined efforts of many people for us to reach the level of ministry and activity we are enjoying. I appreciate each one of you who participates each week. Thank you!
The liturgical season of Easter continues for seven weeks. We’ll be considering topics like, “The Gift of Choices,” “The Gift of a Meal,” “The Gift of the Shepherd,” “The Gift of Mothers,” “The Gift of Family,” and “The Gift of Heaven.” On the 8th and 9th weeks after Easter, we will celebrate Pentecost Sunday for two weeks before we begin our Summer Worship Series, “Blessed Assurance.” Of course, there will be special events to join in, beginning April 30 with our Fifth Sunday Potluck Fellowship Luncheon, and the May 13 Men’s Breakfast presented by the women of the church. I hope you’ll participate as often as you can as we build the community of Holy Cross through our worship, our ministry and our times of fellowship together. As my very good friend The Rt. Rev. Grant Lynn Ford says, “Everything is better when we do it…together.”
We are adjusting our office hours ever so slightly. The office will now be open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 until noon. We believe we can cover all our office needs in this number of hours and not wear out our office volunteers. If you need to reach us outside those hours, please leave a voicemail message at 850-469-9090, or email us at either email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks so much for your cooperation.
This Sunday we will be in the Gospel of John considering Jesus’ appearance to the disciples after his resurrection. Thomas, or “Doubting Thomas” figures prominently in this passage of scripture. I’m calling the sermon, “The Gift of Choices,” as we consider the choices we must make in our lives in light of the resurrected Christ. Will we be a resurrection people, will we believe Jesus, will we follow him, or will we continue looking for external sources that may distract us from God’s plan for our lives? What choices will you and I make as resurrection people?
I hope you will be here to consider this with us, and to enjoy the best music and the best ritual arts in town. Carollyn Taylor will make her solo debut singing a beautiful song for us. The entire music team will be here to lead and bless us. And many others will participate as we experience the full presence and movement of the Holy Spirit among us. Come join us this week, bring some friends and remember to bring something for the offering.
May God bless you and may God continue to bless Holy Cross MCC of Pensacola.
