Church Wide Cookout & The Gift of Heaven
I hope you’re in the midst of a very good week – enjoying family in many ways – biological family, chosen family and church family. Thanks, as always, for your participation in the ministry of Holy Cross MCC.
As I mentioned during my sermon on Sunday, we are working carefully to build our weekly attendance. The board and some guests spent a great amount of time last night addressing ways to encourage, improve and maintain attendance in our services. You will see us begin to implement some of those suggestions this Sunday. First, we know we need to do a better job collecting names of those who attend worship. If we don’t know who they are, it’s impossible for us to follow up with them when they’re absent. Considering that, we are beginning a fun way that we hope will help us. To participate, you must turn in an attendance sheet when you are in worship. Each week we will take all those sheets, put them in a drawing and on the following Sunday announce the winner and offer a prize (gift card or something like that). We’ll start this Sunday and announce our first drawing winner the following week. So, help us spread the word – fill out those attendance sheets and make sure you get them to us every time you’re here. Thank you.
If you have ideas that might help us build and maintain our attendance, please let me know. The best way to reach me these days is at email@example.com.
We are very much looking forward to our Churchwide Cookout this coming Sunday right after church. We’ll have burgers, dogs, salads, desserts, watermelon, a Cake Walk, Corn hole, horseshoes and other games that we’re still gathering. This would be a wonderful opportunity to bring some friends to church with you. Let’s really make this CHURCH WIDE and take advantage of another opportunity to enjoy one another’s company. I can’t wait to see you here.
I worship theme for this Sunday is “The Gift of Heaven.” I hope you’ll be here to join us as we think about heaven and all its potential. Of course, I’m reminded of Vestal Goodman singing, “This is Just What Heaven Means to Me.
We are in most need of some additional building and grounds volunteers. These duties include keeping our grass mowed and making relatively minor repairs around the church buildings and grounds. If you’re available to help us, please contact me or Terri Bradfield and let us know. This is another ministry opportunity around our church. Thanks, in advance.
Tomorrow afternoon at 3 we will hold the Memorial Service for our beloved Morgan Carlson. Come and let’s remember Morgan and his love for us and ours for him. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. Rev. Sandy O’Steen will be co-officiating with me. I look forward to having Rev. Sandy back in the house.
That’s the summary for this busy week at Holy Cross. Thanks again for your participation and leadership among us. Help us spread the word so that every person who worships here is well-informed about all our ministries and events. Thanks so much.
May God bless you and may God continue to bless Holy Cross MCC.
