The Gift of Mothers
Thanks so much for all your positive comments about our Worship Celebration this past Sunday. I remain convinced that these Worship Series that we’ve developed over the past months by coordinating our use of scripture, music, ritual arts, preaching and unique events, have taken us to a new level of understanding and appreciation for what God has to teach us each week. Although I’m still preaching sermons called, “The Gift of….” that official Worship Series is finished. Our next one, which begins on Fathers’ Day, June 18, is entitled “Blessed Assurance.” The first sermon will be “Blessed Assurance, Jesus is Mine,” and just wait until you see the threads that will tie it all together. I’m very excited about what God has in store for us through this brand-new Worship Series. By the way, I always like to give proper credit, so let me refer you again to the work of Dr. Marcia McFee and the Worship Design Studio. You can check it out at www.worshipdesignstudio.com.
There’s still time for you to submit pictures of your Mom for Sunday’s special Mothers’ Day PowerPoint presentation. Email them to me at firstname.lastname@example.org. This Thursday, May 11 is the deadline for inclusion. We have a wonderful group of pictures already and we really would love to include yours. Remember these pictures can be of your biological mom, a grandmother, step-mother, God mother, substitute mother or anyone who filled or fills the role of mother for you. Please get yours to me right away so we can be sure and include it on Sunday. We’ll have lots of flowers and gifts for some unique mothers in our congregation – the youngest mother, the oldest mother, and the mother with the most children. Be here and bring some friends. Let’s fill the sanctuary as we worship together.
This Saturday is our Men’s Fellowship Breakfast, offered by our church women. Men, please RSVP at https://www.facebook.com/events/466396520369923/. We want to make sure we have the right amount of food for everyone. Come and why not bring a couple of friends with you? Thanks so much to the women of Holy Cross for offering this event where we will enjoy one another’s company.
Al and I will be traveling to Cambridge, MA next week where I will receive The Rev. Dr. Suzanne R. Hiatt First Decade Award from Episcopal Divinity School (EDS). This award is presented to an alum for outstanding work in the church during her/his first ten years after graduation from EDS. I’m deeply honored to have been selected this year for my work around Marriage Equality and Social Justice issues in Metropolitan Community Churches. Pray for us as we travel. We will not miss a Sunday for this trip, so we’ll just be away about 5 days.
Watch the church’s Facebook page for full information about events at Holy Cross MCC. I look forward to seeing you for worship and for our fabulous times of fellowship as a family of faith. May God bless you through the remainder of this week and may God bless Holy Cross MCC of Pensacola.
