Pride Service – “Liturgy of the Rainbow”
I hope you’re having a wonderful week amid all this rain. On two occasions, I have suggested that one of my friends send the boat to get us out of here. While I was really joking about that I do want to encourage you to be careful on the highways and any time you’re away from your home. Driving conditions are treacherous every day and even more so on days when it rains. We need each one of you to remain involved in the ministry of Holy Cross MCC so please take good care of yourselves.
I may seem like a broken record these days as I continue to invite you to be part of our 40th anniversary and volunteer appreciation banquet which is coming up on Friday, June 23. It’s very important that you RSVP prior to the deadline on June 20. Due to the generosity of a donor, we are working with the caterer to provide the meal for the event, and will need to let them know a specific number on the 20th. The menu includes sliced pit ham, beef tip over brown gravy, garlic mashed potatoes, corn casserole, green bean bundles, bowtie pasta salad, yeast rolls, pesto spaghetti with roasted tomatoes (vegetarian) and peach cobbler. Wow, what a meal! UPDATE: Reservations for this event are now closed.
In order to RSVP, you can go to our Facebook page or email me at email@example.com. Also, if you know someone who should participate but that we might’ve missed please feel free to invite them. We want every member and every volunteer at Holy Cross MCC to participate. We’ll have something for every single person to take home from the event. Help us celebrate what God is doing in 40 years of holy cross MCC and through our wonderful volunteers.
Next Wednesday night we will offer our Liturgy of the Rainbow as the church is offering for Pride week in Pensacola. This liturgy walks us through the establishment of the rainbow flag, it’s connections to Scripture, and will even talk about the new movement to add new stripes to the flag. We’ll have a light reception following the service, so please come and help us welcome our guests. Invite your neighbors and friends to join us, too. This is a time for us to demonstrate that our church really welcomes every single person who wants to be here. Thanks so much for helping us spread the word about this service and about the Ministry of holy cross MCC.
Very shortly we will reestablish our Children’s Ministry. I am currently working with volunteers to establish the new children’s church program and other activities. The board and I have already identified space for the children to use during our regular 10 AM worship celebrations. We will need more volunteers to help staff this important ministry of the church. If you have experience working with children, or an interest in working with children and are willing to submit to a background screening, please identify yourself to me. Training and materials will be provided to make it as easy as possible to work in this ministry. I can’t wait to see our church with large numbers of children in worship and in all our other activities. Thank you for helping us make this happen.
This weekend we began our new worship series entitled, Blessed Assurance, Jesus is Mine. As always, we will have threads running through the event to connect one week to another. The major focus of this worship series is the Beatitudes. I will be preaching through that passage of Scripture for the next many weeks. By the way, we’re still holding over read as our color for the next couple of weeks. If you’d like to join in the fun by wearing red, please do so this Sunday and for a few more weeks. That certainly is not necessary in order for you to participate, but might make things more interesting.
We mean what we say when we advertise that Holy Cross MCC is a place where you are loved. You are worthy. And you are welcome. Help us spread that message all through the community as we work together to advance God’s mission in this place.
I look forward to seeing you on Sunday and all through the week.
