A Joint Statement from Rev. Dr. Jim Merritt & The Board of Directors.
From Rev. Dr. Merritt:
July 26, 2017
Dear Members and Friends of Holy Cross MCC:
It has been my pleasure to serve as your pastor for the past nearly three years. I’m proud of the work we have done sharing the message of God’s all-inclusive love both here in Pensacola and around the world.
Many of you are aware that I returned to seminary at Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 2006. I completed my Master of Divinity degree there in 2008 and immediately entered the Doctor of Ministry program. I completed that degree in 2011 and went directly to Trinity MCC in Gainesville, Florida, where I served at Senior Pastor for five years. I came to Holy Cross directly from Gainesville and have served as Senior Pastor here for nearly 3 years. This pastorate has been both challenging and, at times, very difficult.
After consulting with my Spiritual Director and mentors, and with denominational officials, I believe it is time for me to take a break from full time Christian ministry, to go on a long vacation and perhaps even a sabbatical leave. Therefore, I resign the position of Senior Pastor of Holy Cross MCC, effective Friday, July 28, 2017, at 5:00PM.
I will use the next week to remove my personal belongings from church, close my office, visit with church members and friends who want to see me, and transfer a very large amount of information to those who will take on the duties I have covered for that past three years. If you would like to visit with me this week, please write to me at email@example.com and I will schedule a time with you, to the best of my ability.
Let me take this opportunity to thank our ministry teams and all who have faithfully served with me. I’m very proud of what we have accomplished, particularly in the area of worship.
I pray that God will continue to bless you both personally and as a community of faith. I will always hold you in my heart.
Rev. Dr. Jim Merritt

From the Board of Directors:
Holy Cross members, The Board of Directors wishes to assure the members of Holy Cross that we are making contacts with the appropriate people to maintain the ministries we have in place. We are also in contact with UFMCC for guidance.
The Board has made arrangements with a guest speaker and musician for the Sunday morning service this next week, July 30, 2017. We will still have the potluck this Sunday so that we may fellowship.
It is our desire that all of us be in prayer for God’s guidance as we make this transition. Let us make every effort to approach this process with Christian love and harmony, keeping our focus on the well-being of Holy Cross MCC. We want to thank Rev. Dr. Jim Merritt for his time with Holy Cross. May his future journey be calming and peaceful.
With Grace and Peace,
Terri Bradfield – Vice Moderator
Ron Bailey – Treasure
Nicole Flage – Member at large
